WELCOME TO FOS – Round 2 of Haiku - try again or for the first time!

For this challenge, write a poem using the form presented and your fellow Starlite poets will vote for the one they like the best! The form is:

haiku -

The haiku is a Japanese form of poetry that captures a specific moment in time and traditionally is about nature. While the English tradition is that haiku must be written in the 5 - 7 - 5 syllable count, totaling 17 syllables, it has been found by some that this strict syllable count is not a hard and fast rule, so long as the total syllables of the haiku do not exceed 17 and the middle line is longer than the first and last though again that is not a hard and fast rule. Also, there is a separation, break, turn, or shift, from the middle to the last line, often resulting in the last line being a summary of what you've noted or a wise thought of some sort regarding nature.

In modern times, haiku has become mainstream and is oft seen as a tool for beginning poets to learn by, but this is not so. Many poets have abandoned the traditional structure of haiku in that many supposed "haiku" are not about nature - for this challenge, please stick to the traditional rules of haiku and write about nature. In its traditional form, the haiku was a stand alone verse, capturing a moment in time.

Please click the banner above for an example of the form!

Simply write a poem using the form above. The winner of FOS is decided by all Starliters. The Host - Bronze Dragon - presents a new form each week. Challenge ends on July 7th or upon reaching 15 poems entered.

FOS is a voting challenge - please return at the end of the challenge to vote for the poem using the form that you liked best. Any entries not following the form given may be removed by the Host prior to voting.

Thanks, and Have Fun!
