The form is: Ottava Rima- An ottava rima is a stanza (called an octive) written in eight (8) lines with the rhyme pattern of - abababcc Each octive (you can have more than one, there is no set number) has an independent rhyme pattern (meaning 2nd verse would be “dededeff”, etc.) A true, traditional ottava rima is also written in – gasp! – iambic pentameter. However, the kind and gentle draconic instructor will not reduce your marks so long as you write in 10 syllable lines. Deal? Please click the banner above for an example of the form.
