Fighting For Turf

The plucky robin stood his ground
Warding off all who dared come around

Whether cardinal, dove, grackle or finch
He strode toward them, never giving an inch

Why he chose this spot is a mystery to me
It’s the feeding ground of many birds,
but no worms you see

I spread seed all around daily, watch them come
The robins usually peruse further out, away they run

But this cheeky fellow decided to stake claim
Chasing off all who came near,

He liked that spot and that was it!
He had that something... true grit

It is months ago he made his mark
on my heart, I smile and remember often

This little fellow who was not daunted
by bigger foes or fast, he stood his ground

Standing up for a cause,
folowing your heart, yes... I have heard of that
