Soon to be a Distant Dream

I wanna run
and gotta fly
I just can't take this pressure
every day and night
all of you ask too much
and give back too little
so now that strong cup of coffee
I used to drink is now an empty kettle
I've faltered, and failed
only myself, and now have this tale
of hardship, and pain
my story that was never lain
because I refused to step up and do what
I needed me to be
instead I laid on the blade
and led the motorcade
of all of you
I walked the line, did my time
but still couldn't commit the crime
of a single selfish minute spent on something
other than your request
I've always been here for you,
-the One True Blu -
but have been reciprocated with
all but naught
it's not your fault,
any of you,
that I tried my hardest to be what you always knew
a sap, a butler,
the man who served your every need
with every bit he could muster
and all it cost
was my every wish and desire,
my hopes and dreams
-so you wouldn't have to spend your own-

you never noticed,
took it all for granted
and this time next week
I do expect your brow to be furrowed and slanted
with your confusion of why ____ didn't get done,
the depression of your son,
how the deadlines weren't met
and where your last dollar was spent,
the questions that have no answers
because I handled it all before
now your confusion will start
as I begin to close the door
I can't take this, your contant barrage
of responsability
I need you all to grow up
and take away a piece of me
I've been spread too thin
and spent too much
now I'm just the empty remains
of the hollowed-out husk
cuz you took the sweet, but forgot the bitter
you left me with nothing more
than your hand-tossed litter
of your lives, the memories that get you by
and not once, did you ever think twice,
about my wants or needs
that's ok......
every step I walk away,
makes you all that much more
of a distant dream
