No One is Left Behind

For years we lived far from home
Saw the folks just now and then
Sometimes we'd visit down in Texas
Or maybe they would just drop in.

We moved to Virginia in '69
To pastor a church that was there
That's a far distance in a car
We were much too poor for the air

First time away from our parents
The boys were young, just six and two
First time east of the Mississippi
But a preacher to his call must be true

To a place called Endicott
Our little family would go
Deep in the mountains far away
The folks there loved us so

In summertime our parents would visit
They missed their kids quite a lot
They would stay for a season
Then they were gone like a shot

After they left we'd go for a drive
To calm our feelings and our minds
Get ready to go back to work
Because we were the ones left behind

We would visit our parents at Christmas time
The gifts were all wrapped so pretty and neat
And then it was back home to old Virginia
With our other family to meet and greet

It's always hard to say goodbye,
But then we must be on our way
Leaving hurts, you have to cry,
But it's so much harder for those who stay

Now they have gone to a better place
And we are left to toil and pine
And it sure is hard to say goodbye
When we are the ones left behind

One day soon we will meet again
And forever we will find
We will be at home with Jesus
And no one will ever be left behind
