LIFE ON EARTH

Isn’t it clear it’s time to grow up?
To stop trying to run the world like some kind of shop?
Or playing this side against that, another sad game
Surely we’ve outgrown all this now for shame?

Disaster awaits an unbalanced world
One where we fight each other flags unfurled
Each adhering to his own little spot
Jealously guarding what he has got

Meanwhile negativity boils underneath
In a simmering pot beyond belief
What sense does it make to act this way
When a new world should be born today?

Look back at where we all have been
Those years of madness we have seen
Poverty and division marked so much
Greed, jealousy, fear and such

Now we are within the technical age
When problems have solutions we can guage
But the tragedy is and the tragedy remains
Inside we think with primitive brains

Resources are here, ready to be used
But it must be fairly, lest the path be confused
For if it’s unbalanced the resources will dry
As we squabble for power and surely cry

No victors will arise if collectively we fail
We’re strong together, divided, so frail
Climate change and dwindling resource
Over the next decades will fix our course

How long can the fierce competition game last?
As much time as it has been played out in the past?
What will we say? Another 500 years?
Read the next line and perhaps feel some fears

We have still, six thousand million years
Six thousand million before the end nears
So, how long do you think we can go on in this way?
Endlessly fighting, not planning to stay?

Perhaps 500 more years of this compete and grab?
Fighting for markets with moneyed punch and stab?
Seeing all others on Earth as enemies to beat
A fight to the death where we only compete

What kind of madness does this appear from space?
Where you can’t even see the great human race
So much struggle for resources growing ever more slim
Seeing competition as them not her or him

We’re all in this together, so, can sanity prevail?
Can we plan for a common future, not a luxurious jail?
A superfluous luxury for 10 percent?
While the rest must wait for what’s heaven sent?

Is this the very best that WE, humanity can do?
Is it the very best future for me and for you?
Is this what our parents fought hard and hoped for?
In a new age of wonder with its now opening door?

To squander these very resources as they arrive
Through dog-eat-dog mentality where just a few survive
By greedily and obsessively only wanting more
While the Earth goes rotten at the core

How proud would be our parents who struggled so hard?
Of the greedy consumers, some like barrels of lard
Who live to eat or who consume all they can
While these resources could save the whole world’s span

What a mad, sad, crazy world this is going to be
As we trash all Mankind’s hopes for eternity
Because we were too greedy to see past ourselves
And simply fought each other as our future dissolves

We have reached the nexus of technology and resource
It’s up to us where to go. It always was of course…
We can use our technologies to plan a good life for all
Or we can fight for and waste everything until we fall

Isn’t it clear it’s time to grow up?
To stop trying to run the world like some kind of shop?
Or playing this side against that, another sad game
Surely we’ve outgrown all this now for shame?
