Her Man Fights For Our Country

As she relaxes
on a cold winter day
she has thoughts
of her lover far away.

She thinks of their
sweet tender love
she gives thanks
to the Father above.

She cares deeply for him,
as he does for her
she remembers the way
they once were.

They would gaze into
each others eyes
now she sits alone
and she cries.

Only memories she
has to keep
and dreams when
she is able to sleep.

She tries to forget
the danger he faces
every day in those
strange foreign places.

Where enemies are
continually rising
nothing at all is surprising

She knows he may
not come home alive
but she keeps praying
he will survive.

She occupies her mind
with the hope
Of building a home
it helps her cope.

She wants to have
three children to raise
thinking of a baby helps
her forget this craze.

She often lives in a
fantasy lover's world
they're together as
a fairy tale is unfurled.

He carries her away
becomes her prince
she is his princess
in the castle long since.

Back to reality
she drops in fright
she knows she's alone
and all is not right.

She does her job
well every day
spends money wisely
and saves her pay.

She writes him
long long letters
Sits and knits
him more sweaters.

Trying hard not
to be depressed
He is fighting for freedom,
in which we are blessed
