Save the Best Wine for Last

I've drank deeply of life's bubbly cup,
Imbibed youth's wine like a silly pup;
I've soared to great heights and saw wonders below,
I've laughed and I've cried, known joy and woe,
Like a foolish colt I kicked my heels high,
Having not a clue how the years would fly.

But youth fled away like the morning dew,
Bubbles and sparkles soon became few;
The cup of success tasted empty and flat,
And around the middle I started getting fat;
A bit disillusioned and somewhat blue,
I knew it was time for something new.

Mid-life arrived stumbling but sure,
I tried to avoid it but there was no cure;
So I drank deeply of its rich red vintage,
And embraced a new, very mature image;
Friends were precious and family true,
And the meaning of life began to look new.

Then this cup that was full yesterday,
Was empty and gone like a bad cliche;
I would ask the cashier for my seniors discount,
But it was already given, not even a doubt;
Just to be carded would be certainly suffice,
Looking too young would really be nice.

Now the cup is full once more to the brim,
Sweet and strong with vigor and vim;
So I sit and watch with a smile and a grin,
Sipping a bit every now and then;
Not too fast, I want it to last,
For when this cup is gone all will be past.

Yet I find this cup not that bitter at all,
It's rich and pure, and I'm having a ball;
I can do what I please and folks think it's charm,
Young gals call me honey, and pat my arm;
Most things take longer but that's not so bad,
Just savor each sip and enjoy each fad.

I thought this cup would be the end,
But I see another, the best, my friend!
It's richer and sweeter than all before,
And will never be empty, always more;
Beyond all dreams, wonderful and vast,
This very best wine God saved for the last!
