A Smile Started

I found this print at Art.com. It is called 'River Road' by M. Hurley

A SMILE STARTED

Storm clouds gather.
Wind hollers,
bending the giant Oak.
The sea roils with anger
and you say,

“Don’t start what you
are unwilling to finish.”

ooo0ooo

Fair enough!
But, once started,
why would I want this to finish?
Isn’t there an allure,
a challenge
to standing in an open field,
arms stretched wide, inviting,
allowing the rains to soak you?
Or, daring lightning
to arise from your fingertips
lighting a path in the darkening storm?
Even a simple smile
can be dangerous;
can start a conversation;
can unlock the gravitational eddies
surrounding a Black Hole.
Oh to be sucked into such a void
where anything can happen.
Or nothing at all!

ooo0ooo

So, tell me, please.
Why would I want this to finish?
Why would I not smile back?
Even in the midst of storm clouds
human beings can find their warmth,
uncover new vistas
while riding monsoon winds.
Or more calmly,
walking ‘neath a Cambodian Moon
enjoying the jasmine song of the Mekong.

ooo0ooo

And so I answer in reply,

“A smile started, a story told;
does not have to have a finish.
And like the Mekong, flows on and on....”
