Do You Remember?

Do you remember when you picked daffodils in spring?
Do you remember the first time you heard a canary sing?
Do you remember how puddles of fresh rain water felt
when you took off your shoes to wade?
Do you remember watching your mother
to see how cookies were made?
Do you remember jumping rope,
or skipping rocks in a creek?
Do you remember your first hay-ride,
when your friend held your hand and kissed your cheek?
Do you remember your first marshmallow roast?
Do you remember the colors of fall leaves
And watching the spider as she weaves?

Do you remember when you thought you saw a ghost?
How you hid under the covers hoping it would go away,
You were quaking inside,
You prayed it would vanish without delay.

Do you remember your very first date?
Your palms were sweating; your heart was racing,
and you prayed he wouldn’t be late.
Do you remember lying awake all night reliving
every moment, and every scene?
You closed your eyes to relive that evening
as you lie down to dream.

Dream on.

Hold to every beautiful memory;
For youth distances itself from yesterday;
Live life to its fullest each and every second
Don’t let those dreams fade away.
