* KENOSIS *

Emptying herself of all that was,
She saw her shadow wrinkling in the water.
While apprehending the essence of what she
Had become, time became a weightless metaphor
For memories which vanished as though they never were.

Cautiously approaching the trickling stream,
She fingered the cold stones in silence.
Then stood to gaze at the open expanse
Of Horseshoe Meadows and the
Fifteen billion years that had come before.

Transfixed in the moment where thought was unattended,
She realized the day had suddenly vanished
As the amber sun pulled itself beneath the
White-laced peaks of the Rockies and gathered
Her western skirts into the black of night.

*Kenosis*
The emptying of self
