'Alone With My Heart'

The love which
once stood
sublime
had been broken

Realizing
this time
it's real

As I flew
across the floor
with the final blow
you threw

Making sure
I understood
you despised
my very existence

And if you could
determine my fate
you would
by killing me

Sitting in silence
'alone with my heart'
w a i t i n g

Knowing you
meant business
and would tear
my world apart

This day
would be
my last
of this I was sure

As I huddled
in the corner
like a shattered
piece of glass

Praying hard
and fast
for protection

Hoping it
would come
before you
returned

Then I heard...
the door slam.
