When the Silver Cord is Loosed
Was it a dream, these visions that filled my mind?
These pictures that came as I walked with my Lord;
Vivid scenes painted on the imagination of my heart,
Of what might be at the loosing of the silver cord?
I saw my lifeless body reposing quiet and still,
I watched as those I love wept away their tears,
Their mortal eyes could see yet not see at all,
Angels singing of heaven and no more fears.
A shinning angel took my hand and bid me follow,
Toward a beauty no mortal tongue can tell;
A light so wonderful my poor words can never describe it,
An embracing love so pure it must be where angels dwell.
Then I saw a sight beyond all words ever penned,
Such glory and splendor no earthly man could yet endure;
A radiant city of gold and jewels and precious stones,
And lofty towers soaring into a sky of purist cerulean blue.
The angel smiled as I gazed in breathless wonder,
Then bid me come to meet the King;
We entered a chamber majestic with glory and holiness,
And around the throne a gorgeous rainbow like a radiant ring.
Choirs of angels sang holy anthems to the Lord,
Multitudes shouted praise and bowed at His feet;
In His Holy Presence all life went from me,
I fell before Him as one dead yet so complete!
Wave after wave of the purest love embraced my quaking soul,
Then I felt His touch and heard the sweetest voice,
'Arise, my faithful child, your race is run!'
Then with a hug and a kiss He said, 'It is time to rejoice!'
I was given a white robe trimmed in deepest blue and gold,
With each gift songs of praise extolled our heavenly King;
In my hand He placed a white stone engraved with my new name,
I was royalty now with admittance to all heaven's domain.
His voice was like no other that has been or ever will be,
He spoke of my journey and the struggles I came through;
The strong angel held a crown with leaves of purest gold,
With sparkling buds of gems and jewels not a few.
I heard Him praise the angel with words of grace and glory,
My faithful guardian through many dangers, toils and snares;
Then He took the wreath and placed it gently on my head,
'Well done, My child, you have kept the faith and overcome all care.'
With a smile He winked and said that some are very anxious,
And bid me follow to a vast reception hall;
And there stood mom and dad and a great multitude of family and friends,
With smiles and grins, hugs and kisses we were reunited together once for all.
The scene faded and again I was walking down the road,
I wondered could it be? Did I glimpse a future yet to be?
A vision or just fleeting thoughts I cannot say,
But for those who love our King joy unspeakable they will see.
