Memories of the First

your first came early
six weeks early
there may be complications
but they let me stay
and watch from the corner
of your room
I watched helplessly
you refused drugs
and you did so well
breathing, staying calm
just before the baby came
the pain became intense
a blossoming tear in the corner
of my eyes as I saw my baby girl
hurting so, crying out
then…
you pushed out a head
the rest slipped right out
my first grandson
perfect and healthy
whispers from the breathe of time
– a cry of life
how beautiful

AFG- whispers from the breathe of time
(free verse)
Challenge – a blossoming tear
