GONE IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE
From a baby to an adult
In the blink of an eye
These years pass so quickly
It often makes me cry.
The pitter patter of little feet
They're gone in the blink of an eye
The laughter and the giggles
Left me gasping an audible sigh.
The phrases and restrictions
I said and imposed on you
They're gone in the blink of an eye
And it's left me rather blue.
Baby clothes and little shoes
So many I did buy
Pictures of days that are gone
All in the blink of an eye.
Wishing I could undo
Mistakes I've made in the past
But in the blink of an eye
This dye I did cast.
Watching you go through life
Struggling to make ends meet
And then in the blink of an eye
A grandchild, beautiful, and sweet.
Once again I hear the pitter patter
Of little feet upon my floor
But then in the blink of an eye
They're gone forevermore.
The years have passed so quickly
And in the blink of an eye
The house is quiet once again
As I sit alone and cry.
So seize the day; don't let it go
Cause in the blink of an eye
Your children will eventually leave
And these years will pass you by.
