I wrote this for Albert
shortly before he died. It is based
on an e-mail reply he had sent to
me in which, when asked how he
was doing he replied: 'I still know
how to smile.'

'How are you doing today?' I asked
and this was his quick reply,
'I'm not sure exactly how I am,
but I still know how to fly.

I fly through the trees up to the clouds,
I dance on the milky way.
Then I visit the man in the moon,
and sometimes find time to play.

I flirt with eagles on mountain tops,
I bounce on fluffy white clouds.
I see all the beauty God gave me,
and often I cry out loud.

Yes, I know this all is a dreamscape,
but look at me and you'll see
I have learned to become a dreamer,
as I fight this awful disease.

So how am I doing today, you ask?
I need not think for a while
for today I can tell you in truth,
I still know how to smile.'
