The Undersea World of Online Gaming

The Undersea World of Online Gaming by Carey Lenehan

Fish swim to the surface of a sea

alien in all senses,

a flashing, pop-up, battle-bannered Ocean

of GAMERS

Here lies

the sandy bottom of the Internet,

the Dark under-Side

Floating in the browned out depths,

is a world

unknown to us,

to the bright, daytime users,

the Richard and Judy viewers, internet consumers,

we shoppers, researchers, looking for the Parenting Channel.

Like Soho, both gaudy and soiled, like an aging disco ball,

Daring, but probably harmless,

a redlight zone so enticing...

Online Gamers are the children of the night....

Quake me. Shake me.... Medal my honour...

Here lie our kids and the world's disaffected loners,

Fighting wars won and lost long, long ago,

over and over, and over...

Blazing a trail through the darknight sky!

Killing and being killed

Over, and Over,

and Over again.....

No pain. No gain, just Game.

Swimming in the sea of Online Gaming Night

I am aware that the depths are deeper than I can ever know

That sharks swim amongst the tiny fishes,

looking for a weakness, a chink, a break

in the firewall, a chance to seize real prey, and

spray,

flesh, blood, bone,

Wolfenstein Server... anyone home....?

Beneath the silt, beneath the muddy bottom of

Lara Crofting Predator,

there is yet more,

crust and skin, oozing fluid, a word that slips,

to the corner of a screaming screen... pornography

Where the sea serpents will eat you all up.

Let me in to swim, with the big, bad barracudas.

I want to die. Electronically

Over and Over

Again, and again, and again. The Undersea World of Online Gaming The Undersea World of Online Gaming
