The Marble Composition Book
I used to hide my marble composition books
In the top right dresser drawer
Where I kept my neatly folded
Halter tops and tube dresses
Until my mother lost 42 pounds...
Two delicious shakes
And a sensible dinner...
Then I found her one day
Laying on my queen size bed
Wearing my new zebra print tank top
With the tags on the floor
And scissors still in her hand
Surrounded by shredded pieces
From my marble compositions books
In which I used to jot down memories
Of my father... pre rehab...
Now I stash my notebooks
In the bottom left dresser drawer
Underneath Victoria's crumpled secrets.
