Dear Mr. Santa Claus

Dear Mr. Santa Claus
A scrap of paper dropped on the floor,
'Dear Mr. Santa Claus' caught the eye.
Of a man walking past, he picked it up,
Began to read but soon started to cry.
'Dear Mr. Santa Claus,' he read,
'I hope you get this letter.
I know that you bring toys and gifts
And can make people feel much better.
My name is Susie and I am eight
But I don't want anything really for me.
I have some friends who are really sad
And there are things they need, you see.
My friend Bobby needs a coat
It doesn't have to be brand new-
Just something to keep him warm, Santa,
His family is poor and his old one, he outgrew.
Mr. Smith from two doors down
Could use a new pair of shoes.
He walks me and other kids to school
And I know he'd like whatever you choose.
Becky and Billie need something special
Their mommy and daddy both died.
Could you bring them a new family, Santa..
Because all they can do now is cry.
Santa, my daddy needs a better job.
He works at two right now.
To make sure he can give us all we need,
He finds the time somehow.
Here's my address, Santa,
To remind you where I live.
I can help deliver them if you like...
Thank you Santa for anything you can give.'
The man slowly folds the note
As he smiles through glassy tears-
For a little girl with an angel's heart
Who wanted to bring Christmas cheer.
Forgetting his errands he went on his way
To make this child's wishes come true-
Seemed like very little things to ask-
And felt it was the least he could do.
A bag of gifts left at her door
On Christmas morning Susie found
But it was the note attached which made her smile
And brought her joy in leaps and bounds.
'Dear Susie, this is Santa..
Yes, I got your letter.
I hope all these gifts I brought to you
Will make your friends all feel better.
A coat and a pair of shoes
For two friends who need them so
And I have a new job for your daddy, too.
Here's the address where he should go.
A new family for Becky and Billie...
I want to make it come true
So I went to my dear friend, God.
He'll see what He can do.
And for you I leave an angel
To hang upon your tree
So that you might remember
The gift you've given me.
Christmas is not about 'how much',
And that's a message many miss.
It's about 'how little' it takes
To grant another's Christmas wish.
So Merry Christmas, little Susie!
Please know I'll not soon forget
The gift of you, your Christmas list,
And this most special Christmas yet.'
