I should have felt .. how you felt so all alone ..
how dare I, how could selfishly I ignore ..
the feelings of the one who meant .. the world to me .. and more
how could I be .. so blind as not to see ..
that everything I saw in you, you saw and more .. in me
how could I be so lost .. in the love and comfort that was you
I lost sight of .. that it was love and comforting you needed too
I didn't know of the tears you shed .. you hid them too well to see
while for me you gave your all .. hoping for the same from me
I'm so sorry that with everything you mean to me .. and did through all our years
I couldn't see how alone in our togetherness you felt .. through your selfless cares
If I could turn back the hands of time .. pass through the shaded window of yesteryear
then these secrets held within my soul .. there'd be no need to bare
for if I could I surely would ..go back to yesteryear
and wipe away my selfishness .. that caused your lonely tears
then through morning's song .. till evening's lullaby ..
till morning's song again .. you'd feel no need to cry
for I'd see through old eyes new again .. and rightly change my ways
and you would now feel than .. was the best .. but still to come .. are yet better days
