my Daddy

Artwork by Dennis Farris 'Hands of Time'

This week I'll drink
the bittersweet libation
of your memory
through smiles and tears
images of summers gone by
and the anticipation
of winters yet to pass

life swallows another July
without you
wrinkles etched on my skin
are so reminiscent of yours
the ones I gazed at with love
when life was young

infinity looms large
so like an empty dream
the blacktop sizzles
under another July’s heat
thoughts of you
rise to the top

shadows of the past
perform for me
I hug the memories
wishing....missing....loving
my Daddy
