Smiles That Last
Watching as you wiggle your tiny toes
Seeing the sparkle in your eyes
Trying to find your little nose
Everyone aware of your tiny cries
Learning to crawl kept us amused
Your curiosity reaching for anything handy
The laughter you brought by the words used
Tiny giggles brought thoughts of cotton candy
First steps walking bringing you the universe
Going everywhere we could not keep track
Climbing stairs gave a worry of you in reverse
Energy was not a commodity you lacked
Learning was for you a yearning
Life's beauty you did so adore
Becoming a young woman forever churning
Filling our life with nothing of bore
These events so much a part of our past
Yet still watching you all the while
That twinkle of eyes will forever last
My thoughts turn to each time you brought those smiles
