We See

I watch and I see
A self centered revelry
Not based in any reality
Wondering how can this be

Can they not watch and see
A dire need, a neighbor’s plea
A desperately grave situation
For those far more unfortunate than we

If we cannot dare to believe
How can hope live and breathe
Within the destruction disaster leaves
Within the hearts overwhelmed by grief

“They” seem to be fewer than “we”
Who empathize and long to see
An end to suffering’s aching plea
Despite our woes extending a hand to thee

In brotherhood we dare to believe
In the light upon faces of those who receive
In the spirit of a people unwavering in strength
In reaching out hope is born if we just dare to believe
