Nature Lost To Progress
Have you heard the forest speak
Listen carefully high above the city lights
It's message is becoming weak
We seem to deprive it of it's rights
Can you see the gentle deer
Calmly feeding upon the small patches of green
It's young staying very near
Look closely for there is beauty to be seen
Bears high upon a ridge
One small the other very large
Feeding upon the berries on the edge
No hint of bringing any carnage
The sheep with long curled horns
Standing proudly upon a ledge
Look closely and there are newborns
Being protected from what moves the hedge
An Eagles flying high above has seen it all
Once they beheld the balance of Mother Nature
Indians once giving them respect when they would fall
Never taking more than needed to nurture
Buffalo moving withing it's man-made boundaries
Once roaming in herds providing what was needed
Then butchered to feed greed and quandaries
Life taken from them with respect unheeded
Mother Nature turns her face to Father Sun
Tears have left their mark upon her cheeks
No longer is their harmony among anyone
Only 'progress' appearing to get what it seeks
