Tears on a Windowsill

Tears on a Windowsill

I found tears lying on the windowsill
today and wondered how long they have
waited to be noticed or why they have
even stayed and I tried to remember

when they might have fallen or what
had brought them here... was it
when I laid my cheek against warm
glass and was reminded of another

warmth or perhaps it was rain falling
softly, making me miss what I did not
have... could it have been when night stars
sang for me and I could not hear the words

or was it the day I heard tomorrow sigh
and knew it waited for me to visit... I never
meant to abandon my tears or to forget
their existence so I reached with fingertips

to touch, to comfort, to gather them within
my soul and heard the window whisper,
'these tears are mine... I weep them for you'.
I laid my cheek against the sadness and wept...

simply because I understood
