Scattering The Dark (Haibun)

Lie here, waiting, shadows enclose me
Drowning, choking, see your hands, smell your body
Footsteps coming at me, I wait, sense you, feel your presence
Cannot move. I am trapped.

Shadows come closer, throat dry, no voice, I wait.
Darkness all around, no place to run, legs won’t move, paralyzed with fear.
I listen, hear your breath, I wait, wait to die. Alone, no one hears.
No one cares.

Light engulfs my world
But yesterdays remembered
Safe within God’s love

A haibun is an ancient form of Japanize poetry. It is written with mainly verbs and nouns and ends with a haiku that reflects back to the prose, but also stands alone.
