On July 4th

The muffled drum sad roll has beat the soldiers last
tattoo. No more on lifes parade ground shall walk
the fallen few. On heavens eternal camp ground ..
their silent tents are spread. Here honor guards
with solumn vigor watch the graveyards of the dead*

The young, carefree who once stood poised on the
edge of adultood...the same young beardless boys
who hung out at the local burger joint..sipping coke
talking girls..old dogs, fishing poles . Gobbling down
fries drenched in catsup..living for football and Friday
night makeout sessions...

All lovers of life
Death was not a listed option
On their horizon

One extraordinary day they heard America call...COME..
Help us fight to preserve freedom. The evil ones are at
our door. We are in danger of loosing all the we belive
in and enjoy. ...so they answered the call. They came by
the thousands from the hamlets, the cities and the towns.
They all donned uniforms and marched away to stop
the guns of war. They prayed their prayers, dreamed
their dreams and fought....some of them came home in
boxes, all covered up( to hide the ugliness of death) with
the stars and stripes...tonight they sleep in hero's graves

Cover sweet green grass
Let the winds of heaven blow sweet
To sing lullabyes

In memory of them I vow to kneel and pray...for they paid
for my freedom. Today , this July 4th the stars and stripes
will wave. All across the nation there will be grand parades,
and ballgames..outdoor concers and fireworks to celebrate
our birthday.. let us all pause in our merrymaking to reflect
on their sacrifice as we stand in silence. Let us make a
solumn vow to not squander the richness for which they
gave their life...for this was their bequest. Let us remember
war still rages and young people march off and die.

So,in their memory let us unite our hands our hearts
and voices in yet another chorus of God Bless The U S A !
