Waterfall

Why do some good things never last?
Why do people come into our lives,
And go at a time when they have
Etched their being in our hearts,
No different from the fossil
Forever engraved in hard stone.
Why do people change when circumstances do?
Is true love only for the gods,
Or select mortals blessed by random fortune?
Why do people in love fall out of it?
Is love a pit of sorrow and misery,
Shrouded in candy colored tapestry?
Why do people stay in doomed company?
Is holding on truly a measure of genuine affection?
Will letting go mean loving less, and staying
Loving perfectly?
These are the questions that play on my mind,
As I weave each stitch on the white cloth canvass;
Gray, teal, black and blue,
Oh how love changes its hue.
When the pain has subsided, the canvass is full;
And a lovely, lively waterfall comes into view.
Did love make me better or cast me a fool?
Stare at the waterfall, and lend me your view.
(Note: The 'Waterfall' is my first cross-stitch project. It is an intricate pattern in 27 colors. I indulged in this needle-artwork as a therapeutic activity, after a major heartbreak in 1998. :):):)
