Best/Worst of Times.

The decade of the 70's began with a storm of energy, high school and

all the hopes and dreams that go with it, my first crush was still active, was

pretty good at sports, found rock music Black Sabbath was heavy and their

message was eternal. A odd form of music was also present, Disco, and the

clothes that went with it, which was laughable, but, harmless. The Viet Nam

war was just about over, so I enlisted in the USAF, I got to see Germany and

France with a side trip to Amsterdam Holland. The middle 70's I found

myself back in upstate NY, still enjoying the spoils of youth and the females

that went with it; marijuana was the drug of choice.

To say it was the best of times, would be difficult to argue with, with

cost of living still in some sort of balance. The signs that matters would take

a downward turn were really not visible as far as 1978, changes were

peaking out nothing major thou. The year 1979, began with the Cicada in the

spring, and the warning 'the year of sadness is upon us' who pays attention

to such sayings? In no time at all, the message was felt, my best friend was

killed in a motor bike accident on the very street we grew up on, baseball

great Thurman Munson was killed in a plane accident in Aug, my mom

passed away at age 53 of a stroke in Oct, the decade began with such promise and

ended in profound darkness.
