Autumn

The secrets of bright autumn leaves
Are now carried by the wind
To dance o'er the fields together
Like two loyal and trusted friends

That old autumn wind held out his arms
Scooped the brilliant leaves inside
To dance the ballet of early fall
When sweet September dies

They will waltz the dance of yesterday
When tall trees stood all in bloom
But today the leaves prepare to go
Old man winters coming soon

The reds.. golds and bright oranges
Will soon lie beneath the tree
Last month they formed a canopy
To shelter you and me

What tells them they should go or stay
Decrees their time to die
Decides what color dress they'll wear
For their debut across the sky

Preform some polka or the jive
In a ballet of the fall
Giving thanks to Mother Nature
That they have lived at all

I may never know who made them
But I know what I believe
So content within that knowledge
I'll enjoy... the sweet ballet of the leaves

My chosen word. Autumn
