Footsteps

Follow me as I walk onward
And fear not the future
I will lead along safe pathways
And I will look for the chasms
Trust in my certainty
I will not fail you
Believe in my leadership
I will not fall
Go quietly in step behind me
And do not stop

There is a way to go for us
With no time to rest
No easy stopping places on my road
The pathways are too narrow
Tread in the imprints
I leave in the sand
Place your heart in the open
And do not hesitate to say
When you lose sight
Of me ahead

We will reach a place
So high and out of reach
Looking down upon the world
Laid out below in miniature
You will balance on the lip
Between safety and danger
And if you are ready
You will uncurl your dusted wings
Balance on your toe tips
And take flight
