Fatal Connections of Friendship

Synaptic links of personality
Cohesive function, reciprocal response
Friendships formed in energy
Growth in parsecs, developmental joining
Nerve endings connecting in darkness
Rapid and constant, a learning

Flicker, snap, join
Strengthen the bonds with words
Trust, another link
Time, the hard base of certainty
No let downs, no lights out
No broken connections, just a made friend

And then a falter, like a temporal blow
Breaking links, severing connections
Tearing synapses and leaving them
Floating free like rootless trees
A small impact, repaired slowly
But never quite the same

Scar tissue thickened links
Removing sensitivity like shadows of doubt
Just a reminder of what was before
But which has now been changed
Sometimes this is all and friendship
Lasts a lifetime, but sometimes

Massive head trauma occurs, friendship dies
Resucitation of a broken brain impossible
Blood filling the gaps, nerve endings
Severed forever, paralysis of feeling
Of empathy, of familiarity
From friendship to Amnesia with one blow
