Checks and Balances

Today is the day
we exercise our right
to do our little part
to lead this country.

Don’t complain about the way things are
If you can’t find the time to mark the ballot
Don’t groan that they never speak for us.

We see the venom on television,
we hear the words “family values”
yet if we turn off the news and listen inside
the transparancy of the lie, illuminates.

How is it that our voice is silent
and blinding apathy leads the way?
Do you want other opinions
Taking the lives of your children?

Today is the day
we exercise our right
to do our little part
to lead this country.

As budget deficits rear their ugly head
and money pours into the military complex
is anyone asking the question why?
Why are we now among the most hated?

Are there answers hiding behind the green
of profits and warmongering?
Do we have a chance to look behind the bitter
cloak of secrecy surrounding our government?

I fear opportunity is passing us by,
the vision so important years ago
lost, in a viscious sea of political fascism,
do we all really want to lose our voice?

Today is the day
we exercise our right
to do our little part
to lead this country.

Checks and balances, can save the day
get everyone out to vote
for every person, big or small
we need your voice...today
