Outside Marillac Cafeteria

Racing toward
The only available bench
Covered with ivy
And next to a bronzed Plato
Preaching to his pupils
About an Ideal Republic

She dives and probes
To the bottom of her
Broken imitation gold Gucci purse
She bought for $20 on Canal Street
And extracts a high gloss cure

Is she in search of the Absolute Truth?
Like an ethical rhetorician
Constantly questioning beliefs
Or is she simply on a cosmetic quest
To find the perfect shade?
