He Sees Her Beauty

He looks into her eyes and sees
the girl she used to be.
The one he fell in love with
in nineteen fifty three.
Though others see her wrinkles,
the gray beneath her part,
he sees the lovely lady
who forever stole his heart.

He sees her with their babies,
rocking quietly in the night.
The hands that held them close
when they cried out in fright.

He sees her helping others,
when disaster found its way,
to their little peaceful town
on a cold December day.
He sees her as she kneels and prays
to ask the Lord above,
to watch over those in need,
and shelter them with love.

Yes, he sees beneath the surface,
to the soul that shines so bright,
and he reaches out to hold her
in the quiet, moonlit night.
